Despite the Spanish-sounding name, COERCION come from Sweden and have been around since 1992 – the discography is quite significant too: it includes Headway and Human Failure (demos), the Forever Dead debut CD (1997), Delete (second album, 1999) and Lifework.

The genesis and conception of Lifework involves a time span of almost one year – the music was recorded at the Lowpoint Studio (October 2002), whereas the vocals were not recorded until July 03.

What Mr Kenneth Nyman (vocals), Richard Tholin (guitar), Dag Nesbö (bass) and Pelle Ekegen (drums) present is roughly 17 minutes of old school Death Metal with enticing, hypnotic guitars and harsh vocals meet grunts. The songs are mid- to up tempo mostly, with the typical flow of energy inherited from the Thrash Meal school.

The songs are clearly aggressive and carefully thought-out – some of the riffs are classic, not the traditional Swedish metal style at all (which does not mean that traditional Swedish Death Metal is not good). I certainly found this offer worth the listen.
