Very heavily influenced by the American school of modern metal (a type of sound I absolutely cannot come to terms with), the (surprisingly enough) only bad aspect to Skeleton Kit is the vocals. The remainder of the very elements are actually quite convincing and CORROSIF appear to know what they are doing, standing apart from the mediocrity of nu-metal bands.
They are growing less and less, by the way. I could not quite say this is nu-metal. To me, it is more like some sort of modern metal with glimpses of nu and heavy doses of humor. And very much worth the listen, if you are into new experiences. I cannot quite say I am much of a fan of this kind of sound in general, but CORROSIF manage to introduce ideas of their own in a RAMMSTEIN-familiar production.
As aforementioned, the only absolutely irritating aspect to Skeleton Kit is the vocals, but not all vocals. Worse than that is the rap guideline (bad enough) sung in French (argh!) and Spanish (oh my…). That is all to be heard in A Bloody Game, a terrifying track… to say the very least. There is however a strange 70’s feel in the riffing. At least praise them for trying to be polyglot.
Anyways, regardless of how much one (dis)likes CORROSIF’s music, these Swiss cheeses are definitely professional and that is very positive from the start, given the care with the presentation of the promo pack, consisting of the present Skeleton Kit and the Digipak CD Join Us. Another strong point in this sympathetic Swiss sextet is the sense of humor – from worm-fed band members to CORONER-inspired covers (check both bands’ homelands), which is present throughout the booklet.
