Back in 2002, Regimental Records made sure MARTYR’s EP To Confirm When Destruction Comes came out. Two years later, a recently founded Black Owl Records further deepens the market offer by releasing a digipack A Malicious Odyssey.

Having hit the Excess Studios Rotterdam, Malice could very well be one of the inspiration sources for these Dutch musicians (Haat on vocals and all guitars, Mike on drums and Nomiis on bass), but melody also pervades the album – quite subtly, as a matter of fact. The songs are clearly well thought-out and that shines through the music and its flow – a different, smoother variant of Black Metal shores.

Seven-year long member N. Silence left the band – reportedly it has influences the band’s present sound. Technicality, drums tend to be on a mid to upper tempo pace and guitars are enticing. Still, I would not necessarily consider A Malicious Odyssey melodic BM so much as ‘melodised BM’. MARTYR is certainly a safe bet on the part of Black Owl Records.
