The Belgian NEVERLIGHT HORIZON consist of 4 creatures whose names I have not been able to find out, but a visit at their website should unveil the mystery. The band have managed to release a Brutal Death Metal recording with a significant amount of quality to it which will not go unnoticed to the eyes and ears of mortal men.

The album is enticing from the very first track, the self-titled god of Suffering. Vocals float from slit raw Black Metal (not typical though) to growls and grunts. Every now and then, SLAYER emerges more clearly than the rest, and so do SIX FEET UNDER, VADER and even CANNIBAL CORPSE (particularly on tracks Medieval War and The Awakening).

Ideas and overall execution fit right into American DM (bands above mentioned), but the band also incorporate lashes of fast aggressive BM into the composition. The album is full of slower-paced moments mixed with faster parts, as is the case with Insectodemonium, one of the many tracks with a very acceptable production.

The booklet is quite simple and very effective (except the fact that it is painstakingly difficult to read the lyrics), mostly in tones of green. The cover seems to recall different settings and ways of life/death. I would say it evokes the summons of the abyss into the void of the war panzers.

To put it in a nutshell: this is very, very good DM with lots of rhythm and speed. The large amount of variation does not allow boredom to settle and makes this an infernal listening. It also seems to reflect the perfect amount of DM and BM in a release of the genre (85-15%, respectively – and that is if you can ‘quantify’ this sort of music). Some more time for evolution and a great DM band is to be found in NEVERLIGHT HORIZON (you mark these names).
